A sisterhood of Anglican nuns, led by Sister Clodagh (Deborah Kerr), establishes a convent and dispensary in a former harem in Hindustan. The exotic and erotic atmosphere of their new home seeps into the nuns' cloistered existence, with memories of the past compounding uncertainties about the present and pushing each to her own unraveling.
Black Narcissus, one of the greatest achievements by two of cinema's true visionaries, was constructed and shot entirely at Pinewood Studios. The astounding work in matte painting and scale models won Alfred Junge's art direction and Jack Cardiff's cinematography Academy Awards.
