Cannes 2024 - Camera d'Or award for debut film
On a cold winter afternoon, in an empty school, the mothers of six-year-olds Armand and John meet to settle matters after an incident that may or may not have occurred between the two children. To the surprise of the lost mediator-teacher, the incident between the children pales in comparison to the battle between the two women, who are determined to protect their children. With no way to discover what truly happened, secrets are revealed, accusations are hurled, personal boundaries are crossed, and it becomes unclear who is fighting with whom...
"Armand" was screened in the prestigious "Un Certain Regard" section at the latest Cannes Film Festival, stunning both audiences and critics, and won the award for Best Debut Film at the festival. The young and promising director Halfdan Ullman Tøndel, grandson of the great filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, presents a powerful drama starring Renate Reinsve ("The Worst Person in the World") in a captivating performance – a smart, gripping, raw, and deeply human drama.
