Pietro is a revered teacher, and Teresa is his brilliant and precocious student. Their affair is both illicit and tempestuous. After one argument, Teresa suggests that they each reveal a secret—one so shameful or shocking that if it were to become public, it would destroy the other's life. As time passes, Pietro's stature as a writer grows, and his family settles into the comfort of bourgeois life. Yet, that pact continues to haunt him.

Daniele Luchetti’s new film, an adaptation of Domenico Starnone's best-selling novel, presents an intriguing puzzle about a relationship in which dangerous liaisons unravel, set to a soundtrack by Thom Yorke, all while asking: Can we really trust anyone?

Filmography: The Ties (2020), Ordinary Happiness (2019), Our Life (2010), My Brother Is an Only Child (2007).
