Musical drama, Morocco’s submission to the Academy Awards.
Touda has only one dream: to become a Sheikha, a traditional Moroccan performer. She passionately sings songs of resistance, love, and emancipation, passed down through generations. Every evening, she performs in bars under the watchful eyes of men in her tiny village, all while hoping for a better future for herself and her mute son, that communicates through sign language. Disrespected and shamed, she sets her sights on leaving for the bright lights of Casablanca, but must negotiate the patriarchal attitudes of the men in her life.
A musical drama rich in folk music and Moroccan songs.
The new film by Nabil Ayouch, from the producers of The Blue Caftan, comes to Haifa from its premiere at the Cannes Festival. Everybody Loves Touda tells a musically rich story of female empowerment, powered by Nisrin Erradi's brilliant lead performance.
