Fanny, a shy and lonely teenager, goes on a language exchange to Germany. In Leipzig, she meets her pen pal, Lena, a teenager eager to become politically active. Troubled and wanting to win over Lena, Fanny invents a life for herself, eventually becoming trapped in her lies.

Claire Burger's third film is a touching, tender, and intelligent coming-of-age drama that crosses borders and language barriers. The film is carried by superb performances by the young actresses, with supporting roles by established stars Nina Hoss and Chiara Mastroianni as their mothers.

Filmography: Real Love (2018), Party Girl (2014).
