Mara, a successful businesswoman and single mother, is devastated by the untimely death of her son Nemanja. Emotionally detached and withdrawn, she isolates herself from friends and family. However, when she meets Milan, a close friend of Nemanja, she finds solace and comfort in their relationship. As they become closer, they unravel more about Nemanja's life and the circumstances of his death, giving Mara a chance to confront her grief and her emotions.

Serbian star Mirjana Karanovic crafts an intriguing and complex role for herself in “a character study that explores the nature of defining yourself after loss, Mother Mara isn’t afraid to challenge societal clichés about middle-aged women along the way” (Screen).

Filmography: A Good Wife (2016).
