24 hours, on a long summer’s day, are enough to turn the life of twenty-something arts student Una completely upside down. And not just hers. Reykjavík has awakened to news of a terrible road accident, with Una’s boyfriend and fellow classmate Diddi likely among the injured. But because of a secret she has been keeping from her friends, Una finds herself unable to express her true feelings like they can.

The new film from acclaimed Icelandic auteur Rúnar Rúnarsson (Volcano, 2011 Haifa IFF), When the Light Breaks, was the Opening Film of the Un Certain Regard in Cannes. It is an original exploration of grief, inspired by the filmmaker’s own loss.

Filmography: Echo (2019), Sparrows (2015), Volcano (2011).
