Henri, a combat-fatigued soldier, flees to Jerusalem after the defeat of the Crusaders to Saladin in the 1187 Battle of Hattin.  Exhausted from the summer heat and overwhelmed by trauma of war, Henri finds out that he cannot return back home:  Jerusalem is no longer a city of peace.
