It is the Night of San Lorenzo, the night when dreams come true. While watching shooting stars, Cecilia tells her son about a similar night in 1944, when she was six years old, and the residents of San Martino, her small Tuscan town, defied their Nazi occupiers.

One of the Taviani brothers' greatest films, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival, The Night of the Shooting Stars is based on real events, including aspects of the filmmakers' own lives. The film features dark humor and fantastical scenes that leaven the seriousness of its subject matter. The result is a breathtaking, heartbreaking and life-affirming masterpiece.

Filmography: Leonora addio (2022), Wondrous Boccaccio (2015), Caesar Must Die (2012), Elective Affinities (1996), Fiorile (1993), Night Sun (1990), Good Morning, Babylon (1987), Kaos (1984), The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982), Father and Master (1977)
