In Brazil of 1971, a family blessed with children leads a healthy and vibrant life near the stunning beaches of Rio de Janeiro. However, the family idyll does not reflect the political climate in the country, which is under the tightening grip of a military dictatorship. One day, the father, a former congressman, is taken in for police interrogation, and disappears without a trace. His wife will do anything to bring him home.

Acclaimed director Walter Salles (Central Station) adapts a true story, resulting in a sweeping, moving, and thought-provoking drama. The film won the Screenplay Award at the Venice Film Festival, was chosen to represent Brazil at the Oscars.

Filmography: On the Road (2012), The Motorcycle Diaries (2004), Central Station (1998).
