Sir Michael Gifford, a retired Shakespearean actor suffering from Parkinson’s that has left him frustrated and gloriously grumpy, languishes at his country manor. His family insists that he must have help and Sir Michael ends up with a Hungarian refugee, Dorottya, who has acting aspirations of her own.
János Edelényi’s comic drama finds Brian Cox at his theatrical best. Cox’s Sir Michael is a maddeningly self-absorbed but shrewdly observant man raging at the deterioration of his body, and the actor himself apparently contributed to the wonderful speech Gifford gives at an awards ceremony.
