Ania and Kasia are teenagers in Nowa Huta, a working-class suburb of Krakow. Both girls are studying to become hairdressers. Kasia is a natural; a hard-working, fun-loving A-student full of promise. Ania struggles to master the tricky art of creating waves. A friendship blossoms as they venture into an unknown adult future, reliant on their own resources to pull them through.
Having made a name for himself with his short films and documentaries, Grzegorz Zariczny delivers on that promise, creating a nuanced, confident portrait of a lost generation of Europeans struggling to overcome global economic forces and personal circumstances.
