Dust Cloth

Panorama

Well-observed, superbly played, unremittingly grim and emotionally very potent, indeed.

Nesrin and Hatun are two Kurdish cleaning women living in Istanbul, in the same apartment building. While Nesrin desperately tries to survive with her little daughter, unable to understand why her husband left her, Hatun dreams of buying a house in the middle class neighborhood where she goes to clean.
Ahu Öztürk’s feature debut is a beautifully acted and authentic drama that depicts a society where social and ethnic origins can be insurmountable obstacles. The film won three major awards, including Best Film, at the 2016 Istanbul Festival.
