Isolated ex-marine Travis Bickle applies for a job as a taxi driver, hoping that his nocturnal work pattern will alleviate the effects of his insomnia. But ferrying passengers through the seedy underbelly of night-time New York City and frequenting adult movie theatres during the day compounds Bickle's psychological dislocation from the world around him.
Taxi Driver is one of the most iconic films of the 1970s. Towering over all is the performance of Robert De Niro, whose obsession with porn and violence leads to the film’s powerful ironic climax.
