Having lost his oldest son Nazim in the war between Russia and Ukraine, Mustafa resolves to bring the boy’s body to the land of his birth: Crimea. Together, he and his resentful younger son Alim set out on a journey that will profoundly mark their relationship.
Presented in the Un Certain section of the Cannes Festival, Homeward marks Nariman Aliev as a talent to watch. Aliev explores family bonds and motherland while drawing on his own heritage as he sets the affecting and visually striking film in the disputed territory of Crimea.
