It is the early 1980’s and an all-out war rages within the Sicilian Mafia. Mafia boss Tommaso Buscetta flees to hide out in Brazil while at home in Italy his allies are killed off one by one. Extradited by the Brazilian police, Buscetta makes a decision that will change the entire history of the Mafia: He decides to meet with Judge Falcone and betray the eternal vow he made to the Cosa Nostra.
The new drama by Marco Bellocchio re-creates the Mafia Maxi Trials and questions the nature of repentance.
