The summer of 1979. Two families - the Strelzyk and and the Wetzel - want to escape Eastern Germany and embrace the freedom of the West. They forge a daring plan: they would fly across the border during the night in a hot air balloon built in their cellar. When finally the weather conditions are ideal and they are ready to set off, things begin to go wrong
