The northeast of Italy is a region that has historically hosted many ethnic backgrounds, including deep Jewish roots. Here lives Simone Segre, a renowned surgeon of Jewish origins. His is a quiet life, an elegant apartment, with no ties to the past. One day, Simone rescues a man who has been the victim of a hit-and-run driver. But when he discovers a Nazi tattoo on his chest, he abandons him to his fate. The guilt is difficult to live with and Simone begins searching for the man’s family.
Thou Shall Not Hate comes to the Haifa Festival directly from its world premiere at the Venice Festival. A nuanced morality tale, the film touches on both the contradictions of the human soul and the prevalent racial hate.
