Rojin is preparing for her university entrance exam in Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan. If she fails, her father will force her into marriage. If she succeeds, however, she might lead a more emancipated life and avoid the fate of her older sister Shilan, trapped in a loveless marriage to a controlling husband. Shilan will do anything to help Rojin escape this life.

Winner of the Fipresci Award at the 2021 Karlovy Vary Festival, The Exam is an absorbing drama about a woman’s right to her own life, shot against the background of a war ridden region struggling to rebuild.

Filmography: Memories on Stone (2014), Kick Off (2009), Crossing the Dust (2006).
