At a villa in Tangiers, family members gather to mourn the passing of Moulay Hassan for three days, as tradition dictates. It is the height of summer, the family - all women - is already stifling from the heat, the long djellabas, the restricting customs, when Sofia returns. Sofia, the youngest daughter, has found success in Hollywood against her father's wishes, even if she usually plays terrorists. Her arrival will stir things up.
Laila Marrakchi's film about secrets, lies and family feuds blends chick-flick, rom-com and family melodrama to an engaging effect. The film benefits from vivid performances by a strong cast, fast pacing and some sharp observations about the role of women torn between Muslim traditions and Western influences.
